April 10 in Physics History - Births – Physicists born on April 10
Sir John Leslie (10 Apr 1766 - 3 Nov 1832)
He was a Scottish physicist and mathematician who created artificial ice. He gave the correct explanation of capillary action in 1802. He also invented many instruments including a hygrometer, a photometer, and an arthroscope. He authored his book Experimental Inquiry Into the Nature and Propagation of Heat. His work in mathematics includes The Philosophy of Arithmetic and text on geometry and trigonometry.

Martin Schwarzschild (31 May 1912 - 10 Apr 1997)
He was a German-American astronomer who used photographic instruments at stratospheric heights to obtain high-resolution observations of the turbulence in the photosphere of the sun. He worked on stellar structure and evolution which included differential solar rotation and pulsating stars. He was the son of German physicist and astronomer Karl Schwarzschild who investigated the mathematics which eventually led to the prediction of the existence of black holes.
Giovanni Amici (25 Mar 1786 - 10 Apr 1868)
He was an Italian physicist, astronomer, optical Instrument designer, and microscopist. He invented the achromatic lens and introduced the Amici-Bertrand lens. This designed lens system improved the magnification and was capable of up to 6000 times. He improved the design of mirrors in reflecting telescopes and as a biologist, he studied the sexual function of flowers.
