James Pollard Espy (9 May 1785 - 24 Jan 1860)
He was an American meteorologist who gave the first cut of explanation of the thermodynamics of cloud formation and growth. He was also the first to collect meteorological observations by telegraph. He demonstrated that the great atmospheric disturbance begins with a rising mass of hot and less dense air. The air mass dilates and cools down while rising. Then water vapors convert into clouds and latent heat is released in the process. The heavier air flows below the less dense air and experiences less pressure from above. It rises upwards and water gets precipitated during this disturbance causing heavy rains.

A.A. Michelson (19 Dec 1852 - 9 May 1931)
He was a German-American physicist who received the Nobel Prize for physics in 1907 “for his optical precision instruments and the spectroscopic and meteorological investigations”. He accurately measured the speed of light with the help of a highly accurate Michelson interferometer he designed. He tried to measure the velocity of the earth using this interferometer but yielded null results. He was the one who measured the standard meter bar in Paris that was 1,553,163.5 wavelengths of the Red cadmium line.
