Albert Einstein was, without a doubt, one of the greatest scientists ever. He revolutionized the way we see the Universe, with his theory of general relativity, and even won a Nobel Prize “for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect”, in 1921.

He is also known for being a late talker (this condition is now called Einstein Syndrome), and it’s said that he only spoke when he was 5 years old. However, this seems not to be the case, and Albert’s actual first words were said when he was 2.5 years old. When he was presented to his little sister, his parents said he could play with her, so Einstein thought she would be a toy so he said “yes, but where are the wheels?” (now you’ve learned something today).

Now that we have this myth out of our way, let’s see what we can learn from Albert Einstein the man, and not Einstein the scientist. So here are the 7 greatest life lessons from Albert Einstein that will inspire you to do more hard work.

1. Follow Your Curiosity

“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.”
Life Lesson: 1

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

This is the 1st life lesson of the list of 7 greatest life lessons from Albert Einstein. Although we know that Albert Einstein was smarter than the majority of people, one can argue that didn’t make him special. We can argue that the brightest scientists weren’t the smartest, but the most curious, the ones who look at the world with the eyes of a child and ask “why?” until exhaustion. Scientists are, after all, just children who now think more deeply about their questions.

2. Perseverance is Priceless

“It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
Life Lesson: 2

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

This one can be linked to the last quote if curiosity is your fuel working. As I said, the thing that separates children from scientists is that scientists think more deeply about the questions/problems at hand. If you’re not an aspiring scientist though, this quote also applies because you must work hard and continuously to achieve your goals.

3. Focus on the Present

“Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.”
Life Lesson: 3

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

Geez, I love this quote. I can’t help comparing this quote to a quote of Buddha that goes “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment”. This is such an important, but so many times forgotten, a life lesson. Many times, we try to be productive and multitask, or think “I just want to be older, when I have life figured out”, but that is not the way. Appreciate the journey, not the destination.

4. Imagination is Powerful

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions. Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
Life Lesson: 4

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

This is the 4th life lesson of the list of 7 greatest life lessons from Albert Einstein. What’s the point of having knowledge if you don’t have any ideas on how to use it? This is not only essential to physics, where you have all these problems and you need to come up with innovative solutions to solve them but also in life where coming out of the box can be very useful to solve your personal problems and such.

5. Make Mistakes

“A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”
Life Lesson: 5

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

After all, we can only learn from our mistakes. For us to get better not only in our studies and work but also in our life we need to observe the things that we are having difficulty with or that we feel are obstacles we can’t overcome. How many times did we fall before beginning to walk? How many times have we broken a plate or two when washing the dishes (please don’t leave me alone in this one)? With mistakes comes perfection!

6. Don’t Be Repetitive

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results?”
Life Lesson: 6

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

We can also make a parallel between this quote and the last one. For us to get better we need not repeat our mistakes, but get better and better when doing something. Sometimes you don’t even realize you’re making a mistake. Maybe you feel unhappy about something in your life or career and you need to change something in order to solve those problems. Every day try something that wasn’t in your routine the day before if that’s the case!

7. Knowledge Comes from Experience

“Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience.”
Life Lesson: 7

Life Lessons from Albert Einstein

This is the last & 7th life lesson of the list of 7 greatest life lessons from Albert Einstein. You may have two guys with the same education level; both have read the same books and solved the same problems. The one who has lived the most besides those studies is the one who is most prepared for out there. If you read this quote and think “To get a job I need experience. To get the experience I need a job”, don’t be discouraged; just don’t fear doing mistakes when starting out, and slowly but surely you get more experience.
